Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran (born March 10, 1949) is an American businesswoman investor and speaker. She is also a consultant, speaker writer, syndicated columnist, television host, and author. She founded The Corcoran Group, a real estate brokerage in New York City, which she sold to NRT for $66 million in 2001, and shortly thereafter , the company was sold. One of the original "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in every season of ABC's Shark Tank until today. As of February 2020, she's signed 53 deals with the show, with the biggest being a $350,000 investment to purchase 40 percent of Coverplay. Corcoran was the second child of 10 children born to an Irish Catholic couple of working class located in Edgewater, New Jersey. [8] Her mother, Florence, was a homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. his father was a multi-talented worker throughout Corcoran's childhood. Her family sometimes relied on the free food delivery from a nearby supermarket. Corcoran remembers her father as one who often drank too much and did her mother a disservice and sneer, especially when he was drinking. Corcoran was a struggle throughout her education and later discovered that she had dyslexia. Corcoran entered high school in St. Cecilia High School Englewood, after she left her Catholic elementary school. Corcoran was a failure in several courses in her freshman year, moved to Leonia High School. There she received a grade of D.
